Small things that make a print look its best

A few habits of galleries and framers, for the wall at home.

Hang it at eye level

Galleries hang the center of a piece about 57 inches from the floor. It works at home too, in almost every room.

Two-thirds of the furniture

Over a sofa, a bed or a sideboard, a piece about two-thirds the width of the furniture looks settled, never lost.

Leave a hand’s width

Hang the bottom edge 8 to 10 inches above the furniture, so the piece and the room belong together.

Matte keeps the room quiet

A matte paper surface holds back reflections, so a lamp or a window does not sit on top of the work.

Mix the materials

A canvas and a framed piece can share a wall. Keep the gaps between them even and the group reads as one.

Out of the sun

Any print lasts longer away from direct sunlight, heat and steam. UV-filtering glass helps in a bright room.

The art print is made on 285 gsm textured watercolor matte paper with archival inks and ships unframed. The canvas is gallery-wrapped around a 0.75 in frame with mirrored edges. The framed print comes in black, walnut or white wood behind a clear acrylic cover. Canvas and framed pieces arrive ready to hang.

One person, one gallery

Bassem.art is the gallery of Prof. Bassem Khafagy. He loves colors and reflections, and says in colors and concepts what words alone cannot. He makes images to live with: quiet ones, mostly, work that can hold a wall without raising its voice.

We are plain about how the work is made. Bassem works digitally, from start to finish. Each piece begins with his idea and direction and is developed with digital tools, including AI-assisted generation. Then comes the part that takes longest: choosing. Most of what is made is set aside. What remains is refined and finished by Bassem, detail by detail, until it holds together at full size on a wall.
